Baltimore Gothic is a Baltimore based literary magazine with an interest in all things Southern and Gothic. We love authors who live in the spirit of Edgar Allan Poe, Flannery O’Connor and William Faulkner. We want short stories that capture the essence of the human spirit, including its darkness and decay. We seek out perfectly imperfect protagonists, antagonists and antiheroes.
We are not a slasher magazine. We are inspired by the gothic tradition. Think “A Rose for Emily,” not “Friday the 13th.”

Baltimore Gothic is a magazine that celebrates the birth of a longstanding American genre. Edgar Allan Poe is synonymous with Baltimore. He is often credited with being the first Southern Gothic writer and inspiring authors like William Faulkner.
You do not have to be from Baltimore to submit, nor does the work have to be about Baltimore. We are simply honoring the legacy of a genre born right here in Charm City.
